Shelter of St.Vrain Valley, Longmont, Colorado:
The group home houses 23 women and children who are victims of abuse and need a safe place to live for up to 5 weeks. The current structure is in such poor shape that the plan is to build the new group home adjacent to the current one, move everyone into the new home, and tear down the old building. Olson Architecture, Inc. is currently working on the new design and will donate the architectural drawings for their new group home. HomeAid is involved to help the Shelter with donations for the building, and Belcourt Homes has stepped up donate all the management of the construction.

Vargas Residence, Denver, Colorado:
Guadalupe and Teresa Vargas had lived the American Dream and were ready to enjoy a quiet retirement filled with gardening and playing in Guadalupe’s mariachi band. Guadalupe had worked hard for many years, most of the time working two jobs to put two daughters through college and pay off their home. In the blizzard of March, 2003, their family home collapsed under the weight of the snow and was immediately condemned. All of their belongings were lost, either crushed or damaged by water as the snow melted. Unfortunately, the Vargas family was underinsured. Olson Architecture, Inc. donated the architectural services to rebuild their home, updating the plans to make the home wheelchair accessible, and connected the Vargas family with Standard Pacific Homes. With a huge amount of donated time and materials, Standard Pacific was able to build the home within the Vargas’ insurance budget.

Compassion Child Shoebox gifts:
Every year all the employees of Olson Architecture donate new toys and school supplies to fill shoebox gifts to be sent to children in need all over the world through Compassion International. This year we filled 9 shoeboxes to brighten the lives of kids this Christmas.

Adopt a Family:
Every Christmas, Olson Architecture, Inc. adopts a family in need and fills their home with presents. This year we adopted a single mom with two boys and showered them with gifts. The mom is working two jobs to make ends meet, and had already told the boys that there would be no gifts this Christmas. We were able to provide grocery money, and purchased every item on this family’s wish list including toys, clothes, gift cards, a snowboard and a briefcase for the mom.
